Why do my eyes have yellow in them?
I have blue eyes, but they’re yellow in the center. Usually there is only a little showing, but when light makes the pupil contract, a lot more yellow is visible. Is there a specific thing that causes it, a genetic thing for example? My mom, dad, sister and grandma all have the yellow rings to some degree. No we do not have jaundice.
Well ya see, spoon, eye color is polygenic and phenotopic, making it very hard to decide. Therefore, almost any type of combination between parents and children can occur. Since both your dad and your mom have yellow rings to some degree, I would guess that the multi-color thing is present in both sides of the family to a pretty noticeable extent, and that is not very uncommon. However, to answer your question properly, I need to know if anyone in your family has amber eyes. Because, if this is so, then it is very possible that due to the combinations that could have formed, the amber and blue eyes mixed so that your eyes are prevalently blue, but show a small amount of yellow in the light that is associated with amber eyes. You said that many of your family members have yellow rings. As to that part, I am slightly curious. This is just a hypothesis, but I think that the yellow that is visible is associated with a pigment that becomes more abundant with age. If this is true, then you’ll most likely have rings some day as well. However, if this is false, then this simply means that the fact that your eyes are yellow at the center is a combination of your parents’ rings.
